vSAN 3 Node Data Resiliency

vSAN 3 Node Data Resiliency

I've received a few requests from the field recently regarding FUD being spread by a competitor about how vSAN handles resiliency of data for 3 node clusters so I thought I'd write about it just to clear the air a bit.Note: We will be referencing the resiliency policy FTT=1 vs RF2 in the rest of this post. Each of these methods keep two copies of data within a cluster. So the statement (or lie as most folks call it) that has been going around is this "Our resiliency is better with only three nodes so you don't need…

The End of One Chapter...

I quit my job at HPE today. I start my new job on Monday but that's another blog post. ;-)I started at SimpliVity as the first Solutions Architect (employee 46) in the Southeast US and opened the territory way back in April 2013. We GA'd the SimpliVty CN3000 OmniCube and helped start what is now common place HCI. We pioneered the ability to run our HCI solution on the customers choice of HW vendor. We fought the good fight by not bashing our competition on a daily basis while growing the market from scratch and were acquired by HPE…

Deduplication: You Must Unlearn What You Have Learned

Ah yes, Yoda. I have been using that quote from Yoda for the last three years when describing the way that people think about infrastructure and the way they had designed infrastructure for their data centers in the past. Forget about what they had pieced together in the past because they needed to start thinking about the way they designed their infrastructure as they looked to the future. I think it is now time to turn this conversation to the storage technology of deduplication. Clarke's Third Law Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. TL;DR - SimpliVity deduplicates…

SimpliVity: A Reflection of the Past Two Years and a $1B Valuation

Well we've hit out of the park with a $1 Billion valuation! I have to say that the ride over the past two years has been a blast. I started in April 2013 as the first Solutions Architect in the Southeast region of the US as employee ~65 and am now part of an ever growing team of around 400+ globally. It has been a lot of hard work and sacrifice by everyone on the team (and our families) but it has been truly worth it. SimpliVity has become the fastest growing infrastructure company in recent memory by setting a…

Cisco UCS with OmniStack: Two great tastes that taste great together.

Here we are almost a full two weeks after the big Cisco and SimpliVity announcement at VMworld US telling the world about OmniStack being integrated with UCS C-Series and the co-sell partnership between the two companies. I have to say that being at VMworld and hearing all the buzz this announcement created was exciting. Seeing all the press and comments via social networks made it even more impressive. OmniStack with Cisco UCS at VMworld US But the announcement is not what this post is about. ┬áThis post is about all the different implementation options Cisco customers now have by using…
