EMC is betting on the reliability inherent to internally managed storage. I guess HDS legitimized TP with the USP V, but let's not forget that the technology has been around for a while. If you read the reports from IT shops that have already had some experience with TP, it seems to be a big hit. I'm paraphrasing, but a comment that stood out to me was that once you've tried TP you will make sure that every array you buy in the future has it.
